Purpose of this software
------------------------
MLSS is intended to be used as a software for providing support to your web site visitors. However its application is not only limited to providing support,
as it can be used for advertising to visitors of your site, or providing sales assistance.
MLSS will make your customers feel safer, knowing that there are live people out there who can help them at will as well as knowing that there is a dedicated
personnel will help increase the confidence in your company.
Features
--------
MLSS version 3.30 provides the following functionality:
- Allow visitors to initiate a new chat session from your web site.
- Visitors can leave a message if you there is no staff currently logged in.
- Staff can watch visitors as they visit the site and initiate a new chat with them.
- Visitors are tracked as they visit different pages on your site.
- A statistics of visited pages is held.
- The system can distinguish if a visitor has left the site.
- The administrator can create users with different access levels, i.e. Administrators (highest level), Managers (can be used to supervise operators) and
Operators (can respond to chat request and initiate new chat sessions).
- Administrators and Managers can join currently active chat sessions and assist operators and visitors with their competence.
- Administrators can view chat sessions of all operators, as well as statistics of their logging in and out of the system, as well as the duration of each
session.
- Administrators can register new users in the system, edit existing users, delete or temporarily suspend existing users.
- Every user in the system can also change their log in password.
- Administrators can add new languages.
- Administrators can block certain words from being shown on the site, e.g. swear words.
- Administrators can change various site settings, such as: automatic session expiration, how many lines to show during chat sessions, the name of the web
site, e-mail address to send contact messages.
- Administrators can view chat & login history of all users
- Once a visitor places a new chat request you can be notified of that via e-mail. This is usefull if you enter your GSM e-mail address and get a SMS message
as soon as a chat request is placed.
- The staff can update the name of the visitor during chat sessions.
- As soon as one of the parties leaves the chat the other party will be notified of that.
- Multi-language support. Use any language simultaneously while chatting, i.e. English, Chinese, Japanese, Cyrillic, etc.
- Sound notification upon incomming chat requests.
- E-mail notification upon incomming chat requests.
- Visitors and staff can request a copy of the chat session, as soon as it finishes.
Other supported features, which are usefull but not important are:
- During chat sessions you can automatically use smiles, e.g. if you type :)))) this will be automatically converted to a graphical smile. A total of
25 different styles are supported.
- If one of the participating parties enters a valid URL address, such as (http://www.motion-bg.com) it will be automatically converted into a link to that
address.
- If one of the participating parties enters a valid e-mail address, such as (office@motion-bg.com) it will be automatically converted into a link,
pointing to your e-mail software.
Requirements
------------
Since our software is completely web based, these are the server requirements and you have to make sure that your server really supports them before
attempting to install this software. If unsure about this, you are stongly adviced to contact your server administrator or the support staff at your
web hosting company.
Server requirements:
- Operating system: any
- Scripting support: PHP version 4.05 or higher
- Database support: mySQL version 3.23.27 or higher
- Minimum Web space: around 200KB
- Web space for usage: varies depending on the usage of the system and your operating system
Please see the installation section on how to test your server whether it is compatible with these requirements.
Installation
------------
It is estimated than an average computer user, who knows how to use FTP can install this software. If you think this is beyond your capabilities or
encounter any problems during the installation process, please contact us for assistance. Read the instructions in full before beginning the installation,
as you might need information that you currently do not have.
Follow these steps while installing the software:
1. Unzip the files into a folder on your local computer.
2. Go to the livechat/include directory (folder) and edit db.inc.php to change the mySQL hostname, username, password and database name
3. Connect to your FTP server and create a new directory under your public web space called "livechat" (without the quotes).
4. Upload all files into the new directory (livechat).
5. Run /livechat/setup.php to set up the software, e.g. if your domain name is mydomain.com, type www.mydomain.com/livechat/setup.php to set up the software.
6. Follow the on-screen wizard, which will guide you through the set up process.
Important!!! Delete setup.php using your FTP software from the /livechat/ directory on your site as others may use it!

Additional Information
----------------------
Note: The actual process of chatting is completely server based, in order to avoid message mismatching and incorrect arrival of messages, therefore it would
be better if your server is faster in order to avoid flickering during chat sessions. During a chat session, in order for the chat session to be up to date
the system will refresh every 5 seconds, which will generate traffic, counting towards your server's traffic. We understand that traffic can be expensive for
high volume web sites and we did everything possible to minimise this traffic, by producing the most optimal and less loading output code that can be
possibly achivied.
Note: While we try to support all browsers possible, it is a common situation for browsers not to allow certain functionality or allow the user to disable
certain features, which may result in improper functioning of this software. Therefore visitors with older or incompatible browsers may experience problems.
The nature of the problem can be that staff members may not be able to initiate a chat session upon their request (a visitor requesting a chat session is not
affected on these browsers):
- Internet Explorer 3.xx
- Netscape Navigator 3.xx, 4.xx
- Netscape 6.00 may cause problems sometimes.
Please note, that Netscape users have the ability to disable their JavaScript support, which will not allow support staff to initiate a new chat session
upon their request (a visitor requesting a chat session is not affected on these browsers).
